A parcel going abroad is handled many times on its way: collected by Pos Laju from your door, sorted at our hub in Shah Alam, then carried on to the destination. Good packing is what keeps the contents safe through all of that. It does not take special skills, just the right box and a few careful steps.
Start with a sturdy box
Choose a strong box in good condition, with firm corners and no tears or soft spots. A box that has already made a trip can work, but only if it is still rigid.
Pick a size that fits the contents with a little room for padding. Too big and things slide around; too small and there is no space to protect them.
If you reuse a box, remove or fully cover any old labels and barcodes. An old label can send a parcel the wrong way.
Cushion and fill every gap
Nothing inside should move when you gently shake the closed box.
- Wrap fragile items individually, for example in bubble wrap, so they do not knock against each other.
- Put a layer of padding on the bottom before anything goes in.
- Fill the empty space around and on top with crumpled paper, bubble wrap or other filling.
- Place heavier items at the bottom and lighter ones on top.
Seal it and place the label
Seal all the seams with strong packing tape, not just the middle of the top. Tape along the edges too, top and bottom, so the flaps cannot open.
After you pay, a "Download label" button appears on your order page once the collection is booked. Print the label and stick it flat on the largest side of the box, where it is easy to see and scan. Avoid putting it over a seam or wrapping it around an edge.
Weigh and measure after packing
Weigh the parcel once it is fully packed and sealed, because the box, padding and tape all add to the weight. The price depends on weight and, for some services, on size, so measure the length, width and height in centimetres as well.
Entering accurate figures when you book means the price you see under "Get prices" matches the parcel the courier collects.
What you must never send
Some things cannot go in a parcel at all, for safety or legal reasons:
- Flammable or explosive items, such as lighter fluid, fireworks and aerosols with flammable gas
- Weapons
- Illegal drugs
- Cash
- Perishable food
- Live animals
Lithium batteries are heavily restricted by airlines, so check before sending anything that contains a battery, including phones, power banks and small gadgets. Some destinations also restrict more, for example food, medicines or cosmetics.
If you are not sure whether something can be sent, contact us before you book. It is much easier to sort out beforehand than after the parcel is on its way.
